I am SO god-damned tired of the hype over American Idol that I think I’ll puke. A very violent, turbulent, vile wretching…the kind that appears only after you’ve eaten 3 or 4 pounds of shrimp followed by 10 or 15 shots of Jager.

What Is The Big Fucking Deal about the show? Rather the hype surrounding the show. In the last 2 or 3 weeks I’ve seen headlines using the words “shocking”, “challenging”, “gamble”, “sacrifice” and “daring”. With the exception of “challenging” singing is never, ever any of those other words. Despite the fact that I don’t agree with the concept of the show, I just can’t see getting excited and wrapped up in watching amateur singers compete for a singing contract and celebrity that they didn’t actually earn. Please, please, please stop trying to inject false enthusiasm and hype into a competition that is a slap in the face to established musicians (and by that I mean those that have paid their dues through auditions, meetings, club singing, band break-ups and make-ups, agents, rehearsals, lessons, rejections, uneasy bedfellows, and the remaining miasma that is the trail to musical stardom) and undermines the very fabric of the musical universe. They give the winners a contract and stardom for simply having a good day. True singers pay their dues and have many, many good days…backed up with real talent and ability. Clay Aiken an International Super Star? Come On…who writes this stuff?

Go away, American Idol…just go away
