Captain, the decency filter is off-line!

One of the websites I visit regularly is Trek Web, where I get a daily dose of information about Star Trek. One of the panes on the website routinely posts photos from Flickr that are Star Trek tagged. There is usually some photos of actors, products or toys, convention, or gaming photos. Just about anything.

Today, however, I visit the site and lo and behold there are a number of pictures of topless-and-not-censored Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi, Star Trek: The Next Generation). I know that the photos are pulled by some bot or something and that there is no “decency filter” that intercepts the process, but I just found it amusing. I figured it wouldn’t be there for long, so I thought I’d make a screen capture…for posterity.

You can click the image below for the full-size version.

What’s even more interesting is that there is a poll about Marina underneath the images.

Delta Airlines Sucks

My wife and I booked a cruise back in April and, shortly thereafter, booked flights on Delta in order to get to Los Angeles to get on the cruise. Delta failed in every single aspect. Below is the body of the letter this is going to Delta in an effort to try to get something back out of the $1036 we spent trying to catch up to our cruise.

On Sunday, October 11 my wife and I were scheduled to fly out of Bishop International Airport on a flight to Los Angeles, CA, where we would participate in our first cruise. We have been confirmed on the following flights since April 18, 2009:
Delta flight 6427 to Atlanta (Scheduled to depart at 5:35 a.m. and to arrive in Atlanta at 7:38 a.m.)
Delta flight 2801 to Los Angeles (Scheduled to depart at 8:29 a.m. and to arrive at 10:20 a.m.)

Were we to have arrived on time, we would have a window of almost 6 hours to make it to our 7-day Mexico cruise.

Star Trek Cruise

On Saturday, April 18 my wife and I booked passage on the Star Trek Cruise!

Star Trek Cruise

Star Trek Cruise

On October 11 we’ll be flying from Flint, MI to Los Angeles and then taking a shuttle to the dock where we will depart on a seven-day voyage on board the Mariner of the Seas.  We debated on this for quite a while, but decided that 1) we’ve always wanted to go on a cruise and b) This would be a great First Cruise to go on.  Since we’re both big Star Trek fans we couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

On board the cruise will be Star Trek actors Garret Wang, Marina Sirtis, Chase Masterson (YOWZA!), Tim Russ, and Alan Ruck (“when Cameron was in Egypt’s land”…).

Star Trek: Passing the Torch

On May, 8, 2009 the new Star Trek movie comes out.  Based upon the many reviews and comments I’ve read this movie will reignite the franchise and appears to be an extraordinarily kick-ass movie.

I ran across this video and had to share it.  It’s an extremely well done tribute video about passing the torch from The Original Series cast to the new cast. It is done by SpockBoy. You can visit his YouTube page here. I implore you to visit and subscribe. He does great work.

One of the very cool things you can do (or, rather, could do) at Star Trek: The Experience is get your photo taken in the Captain’s Chair on the bridge of the Enterprise.

(I look kinda…you know…natural in that chair, don’t you think?)

What you can’t see is the 10 other people that are also in that room, which probably measures about 10′x15′.

Star Trek: The Experience Certificate

When you go on the Back Stage Tour at Star Trek: The Experience you actually have to sign a non-disclosure form so that you don’t give away any secrets. You are also given a certificate (below). This is my second one. When I locate the one from my first visit I’ll post that as well.

Leaving Las Vegas

Posted on 9th April 2009 by Jim! in Las Vegas,Star TreK: The Experience - Tags: ,

I’m sitting at the airport and am rather ambivalent about leaving. I hate to leave Vegas, but then again I can’t wait to get back home.

What do I take from my trip to Vegas this time?

  1. I will miss Star Trek: The Experience and it’s honestly very difficult to even type it without getting sad. Most readers won’t understand that sentiment. It’s kinda like they’re pulling the plug early, just like they did for Star Trek (TOS) and Enterprise.
  2. You can have just as good a time on Fremont Street as you can on The Strip. It costs less, the alcohol is cheaper and better, the people are friendlier, and you can walk from one hotel to another and not break a sweat.
  3. People do/say some pretty stupid shit.
  4. No matter how many times you walk up and down Fremont Street you’ll always find something new. Especially at night when there are various types of entertainment. Carl “Safe-Sax” Ferris, K-ARL TV, overhead canopy, and the awesome people watching.
  5. Barry Manilow is always dark when I go to Vegas…Always. Fortunately I’ve seen him 3 times in concert already.

It’s one of my favorite places on Earth, but not quite so favorite now the ST:TE is going away.

….See…there I go getting sad again…
